Length of the Poceirão – Bombel stretch on the Alentejo line from pk 29 + 330 to pk 51 + 625 (22 km), plus the Poceirão transition stretch from pk 28+189 on the Alentejo line to the Águas de Moura – South fork (8 km)

Âmbito da Intervenção

The modernization of the stretch on the Alentejo line between Poceirão and Bombel includes the following work:

  • Modernization and duplication of the Alentejo line between Poceirão and Bombel;

  • Duplication of the Southern line/Poceirão transition stretch;

  • Increased speed between Poceirão and Bombel stations thus reducing travel time between Lisbon / Évora / Madrid;

  • Adaptation of the Pegões Station and Fernando Pó and S. João das Craveiras secondary stops for commercial passenger service;

  • Expansion of the Bombel Station layout to overcome itinerary bottlenecks for goods and passengers;

  • Change in Poceirão Station layout, creating uniform speed stages with upward and downward stretches to overcome itinerary bottlenecks for goods and passengers;

  • Construction of a new technical station at the Águas de Moura-South fork;

  • Removal of level crossings.

Benefícios

Further to studies carried out on the Southern International Corridor, the modernization of this stretch will allow existing bottlenecks on the Alentejo line to be overcome on the Poceirão-Bombel stretch and on the Southern line between the Águas de Moura South and Poceirão fork, removing capacity limitations and improving operating conditions for both goods and passenger transport.
